My short film, “Hair,” which debuted at the Kwanzaa Film Festival this past December, is officially out. This project was the final film from our (Momma Say Sisters Say Productions) first collection of shorts, and it was just released on YouTube this past Friday.
Hair (natural hair, in particular) is such a packed topic. My personal experience involved me living most of my early years with chemically-relaxed hair, and making the decision to go natural not once, but twice. I looked at others’ experiences and even watched a few YouTube videos to figure out how to “deal with” my hair. I had no clue.
Looking back, my decision to write this film seemed like more of a subconscious effort to tell my story. Everyone’s hair journey is different, and learning to embrace your natural hair is a part of that journey. “Hair” is about Shy’s personal experience.
